We are a group of cybersecurity and IT professionals who value spreading knowledge about the safe use of technology in both the work environment and for individuals. Our name, “Concerned Nerds” proudly describes how we see ourselves. Professionally, we implement technologies and practices meant to prevent or mitigate the damage caused by actions of those who would compromise the security of information.
As a collective group, we recognize that our industry caters greatly to government organizations and large corporations. Most small-to-medium sized companies cannot afford to hire their own cybersecurity staff, having an entry-level salary of right around $70k per year. Cybersecurity firms target companies with high profit margins or those that have large amounts of sensitive data to protect. The professionals of this field are an asset that smaller organizations are not easily able to benefit from. This is an area of IT that small and medium sized businesses are not well advised on, and that they have too often not incorporated into their companies.
